Medicaid plans

STAR+PLUS

Our Texas STAR+PLUS plan covers older adults (65 and older) and adults with disabilities (21 and over).

UnitedHealthcare’s Texas STAR+PLUS plan covers traditional Medicaid benefits like doctor visits, hospital stays, prescription medications and rides to and from medical appointments and pharmacies.

STAR

Most people in Texas get their coverage through the STAR managed care program. The STAR program covers low-income children, pregnant women and families.

UnitedHealthcare’s Texas STAR plan covers all Texas Medicaid benefits, including doctor visits, hospital stays, prescription medications, and rides to and from medical appointments and pharmacies.

STAR Kids

The STAR Kids program covers children and adults ages 20 and younger who have disabilities.

UnitedHealthcare’s Texas STAR Kids plan covers traditional Medicaid benefits like doctor visits, hospital stays and prescription medications.

Dual Special Needs plans

Dual Special Needs plans (also called Dual Health plans or D-SNPs for short) are for people who have both Medicaid and Medicare. Dual plans cover most doctor visits, hospital stays and prescription drugs. They offer many extra benefits beyond those you get with either Original Medicare or Medicaid.

Children's Health Insurance Program

Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)

Our Texas Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) plan is for children and young adults 18 and under. You can choose your child's doctor. And your kids get extras that other plans don’t offer. Choose "View Plan" to see what our CHIP plan offers your family.

Individual & Family ACA plans

UnitedHealthcare offers Individual & Family ACA plans in Texas. They’re designed to give you the coverage you need without breaking the bank.

Choose from plans in the Bronze, Silver and Gold metal levels. They each come with a variety of benefits, including reliable support from our customer service experts.

Eligibility:

Medicaid provides health coverage for low-income children, families, seniors and people with disabilities.

  • The STAR program covers low-income children, pregnant women and families.
  • The STAR+PLUS plan covers older adults (65 and older) and adults with disabilities (21 and over).
  • The STAR Kids program covers children and adults ages 20 and younger who have disabilities.

Enrollment:

Enrollment is open year-round. Applying for Medicaid is easy and can be through the mail-in packet, by phone, or online. 

Joining us is easy! After you're approved for Medicaid, you can choose UnitedHealthcare.

Transportation benefits

Your transportation benefit provides Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) rides to approved Medicaid services. Rides come at no cost to you and ensure your access to health care. Unlimited rides to any Medicaid covered service every year, including, but not limited to:

  • Doctors offices
  • Pharmacies and no-cost RX delivery
  • Vision or hearing appointments

Service Coordination

At UnitedHealthcare, every STAR + PLUS and STAR Kids member is paired with a Service Coordinator to help them get the medical and long-term services and supports they need. They work with you, your doctors and your caregivers to build a plan of care just for you, based on your goals and needs.

Mental Health benefits

Mental health is as important as physical health. That’s why we have coverage for both. You are eligible for mental health services, also called behavioral health services. Mental health services can help you with personal problems that may affect you and your family. These problems may be stress, depression, anxiety or using drugs or alcohol.

Pregnancy benefits

We’re here to support your pregnancy. Our Healthy First Steps program includes:

  • Babyscripts pregnancy app
  • Help finding a provider

Value Added services

In addition to required Medicaid services, we offer value added-services by plan. These unique services were inspired by feedback from members like you. Use them to benefit your health and everyday life.
